Electronic Recycling

Effective September 1, 2010, 2009 Act 50 prohibits disposal of
certain electronic devices in Wisconsin landfills, burning in an
incineration facility, or placing these devices in a container
intended for disposal or incineration [s.287207(5), Wis. Stats.].
This ban does not require a solid waste treatment or disposal
facility to retrieve a consumer video display device (a television
or computer monitor with a tube or a screen that is at least 7
inches in its longest diagonal measurement) if doing so is
impractical or would jeopardize the health or safety of a worker,
or if the device has been damaged to the extent that recycling is
no longer practical or feasible [(s.287.07(5)(b), Wis. Stats.].
Electronic devices included in the ban are computers, printers,
video display devices, peripherals, fax machines, dvd players,
vcrs, and other video players (i.e., dvrs).

Fall Clean-Up/Fix-Up Week

Fall clean-up week is the second full week in November
(12-16).

City crews will pick up anything (except hazardous waste, motor
oil, electronics, propane tank and tires) that you put out on your
normal garbage pickup day. Garden debris, small sticks, and twigs
must be in the 2-ply Kraft paper compost bags or in an open
container not larger than thirty (30) gallons and not weighing more
than fifty (50) pounds. Paper or plastic bags or boxes of any kind
containing yard waste will not be picked up. (Note: There is a
difference between a compost bag and a regular paper bag).

Limbs and branches two (2) feet to four (4) feet in length
should be wrapped in bundles. Limbs and branches four (4) feet to
six (6) feet long should be neatly placed on the terrace with the
butt ends facing the roadway. Any branches less than two (2) feet
in length is considered yard waste and must be in the 2-ply Kraft
paper compost bags or in an open container not larger than thirty
(30) gallons and not weighing more than fifty (50) pounds. Limb and
branch collection by the City occurs during the second full week
(Sunday-Saturday) of every month.

All major appliances will need a sticker before placing out for
collection. You may purchase a sticker from the City Clerk's office
at 201 West Second Street, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m.
and 4:30 p.m. Refrigerants (freezer, refrigerator, air conditioner
or dehumidifier) are $15.00. Non-Refrigerants (stove, microwave,
oven, washer, dryer, dishwasher, furnace or water heater) are
$10.00. If the unit is on the curb or alley more than thirty (30)
days, then an additional charge of $20.00 plus the price of the
unit will be charged to the property owner.

insecticides, herbicides, antifreeze, lead based paint/oil based
paint, acids and alkalies, etc. These items cannot be put out for
pick-up. They must be taken to one of the Outagamie County drop-off
sites. Please call the Outagamie County Solid Waste facility at
832-5277 with Clean-Sweep questions.

17-20 at no charge. Significant savings will be realized by the
City of Kaukauna by having our fall tire collection coinciding with
the County's free drop-off. Kaukauna Street Department will collect
a maximum of four (4) tires from residential customers only, rims
must be removed.

Heavy Equipment

Any homeowners planning a construction project within the City
limits should be advised of the following City policies:

Any contractor doing new or replacement work is required to
remove and dispose of all construction debris at his expense.

A homeowner using heavy equipment (backhoe, tractor, skid
steer, etc.) is considered a contractor. Therefore, they are
responsible for debris removal. The City will not pick up this

controls land in the City of Kaukauna. Ordinance 10.03 (6) of the
Kaukauna Municipal Code requires that all noxious weeds and other
rank growth of vegetation be kept to a height of not to exceed 1
foot. Exceptions are given to vacant lots in the Industrial Park

Recyclables Collection

Recycling is picked up every other week on your garbage
collection day.

To make this transition easy on the recycling and garbage
drivers, because your garbage and recycling is on the same day we
ask that you clearly separate your trash from your recycling (set
trash on one side of driveway and recyclables on the other).

Recyclable plastic, glass, tin, and aluminum can be placed
curbside in a reusable container. Reusable containers must be
between 15 and 33 gallons with handles on the outside of them and
weigh less than 50 pounds when set at the curb. Containers must
also be marked with an Outagamie County Recycling Sticker. Paper
can be set out for recycling in paper bags, a cardboard box no
larger than 3ft. x 3ft. x 1ft. or a separate reusable container as
described above. Corrugated cardboard boxes should be flattened, if
possible, to save space, and cut into pieces no larger than 3 ft. x
3ft.

To get all residents picked up in time the recycling drivers
have to start early so make sure to have all your recycling out
either the night before or by 6:00 am.

If for some reasons you should have a concern about your
recyclables collection please feel free to call Inland Services
directly at 759-0501 to express any concerns you may have.

Yardwaste Vs. Brush Collection

As the Street Department defines it, yardwaste is garden debris,
flowers, trimmings from bushes, hedges and grass clippings.
However, the City of Kaukauna and Wisconsin Department of Natural
Resources does encourage residents to leave grass clippings on the
lawn. Lawn clippings are a good source of fertilizer and can also
make excellent compost. Also considered yard waste are branches two
feet or less, whether they are from the homeowner trimming trees or
from a storm. Yardwaste is picked up curbside three times a year,
twice in the spring and once in the fall. Yardwaste can also be
dropped off at the drop off site which is open throughout the
summer months on specific dates and times. Yardwaste information is
listed under Yardwaste Drop Off Site.

Brush is considered branches that are two feet or longer. Brush
pickup is the second full week of each month (Sunday-Saturday).
Additional brush pick up information is available under Brush
Collection.

For additional services or changes, please see the Community
Newsletter or City advertisements in the Times-Villager.

If the unit is on the curb or alley more than thirty (30) days,

Collection.
